Avalon bakery to give away free cookies Monday, June 5

Is there any better way for a bakery to celebrate than to hand out free cookies? No, and that’s why on Monday, June 5, all five Avalon International Breads locations will do just that to celebrate the company’s 20 years of business.

It may have become stylish to open small businesses in Detroit now, but when Jackie Victor opened up her bakery in Cass Corridor 1997, it was far from a common or even normal practice.

This means with her motto of “eat well, do good,” Victor’s socially responsible bakery was there at the origin of  the efforts to revitalize Midtown. In that time, the artisan bakery has sold a lot of baked goods to thousands of people, planted roots and formed relationships within the community.

To celebrate, Avalon is giving away 1,997 sea salt chocolate chip cookies, one of its most popular baked goods. More than one million have been sold. Cookies will be given one per customer. No purchase is necessary.

The bakery has grown to five locations. You can check them out  for your free cookie.

  • Avalon Flagship – 422 W. Willis St., Detroit
  • Bakehouse Outlet – 4731 Bellevue, Detroit
  • Detroit Metro Airport – McNamara Terminal, Concourse C
  • Avalon Cafe and Kitchen – 120 E. Liberty, Ann Arbor
  • Avalon Cafe and Bakery – 1049 Woodward, Detroit

Victor bet on Detroit when few others would, and it paid off. Now a lot of people will get free cookies – while supplies last – to celebrate that accomplishment. And you should never argue with free food … let alone free cookies.
