The National Black Public Relations Society-Detroit (NBPRS) will host a PR MANdate event focused on males holding leadership positions in the female-dominated industry of public relations, specifically in political/governmental affairs, PR consulting and communications fields.
It will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the MASH Detroit located at 14711 Mack Avenue. Members are invited for free, $5 for non-members (advance purchase via Eventbrite). To register go to http://bit.ly/PRMANDATE.
“The public relations industry is primarily dominated by women practitioners – since the gender shift in the mid- ‘80s many of our male colleagues have disappeared and quite frankly gone unnoticed,” says LaToya Cunningham, president, National Black Public Relations Society-Detroit Chapter. “We wanted to enlighten and explore the gender, economic and professional disparities from the male perspective.”
Women make up 61.3 percent of the PR industry and 69 percent of Public Relations Society of America’s members, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The PR MANdate event will feature topical discussions from several of Metro Detroit’s industry and career notables at the all-male panel.
- Don Tanner, partner at Tanner Friedman and President of PRSA-Detroit
- Eric Thomas, SAGA marketing, blogger and TedX Detroit speaker
- Ryan Bridges, senior communications manager, Wayne County
- Edward Foxworth, CEO of Apex Leadership Academy
