Just by keeping active your kid can win a ride in the Thanksgiving Day parade, tickets to the Lions game

Our Lions have been roaring on the field the last few weeks. It’s terrific, but did you know they roar off the field as well.

Again this year they’ve teamed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes to put the healthy roar in to Michigan kids.

The winner gets to appear in America’s Thanksgiving Parade® presented by Art Van and gets 10 seats to the Detroit Lions game that day. To enter all you have to do is answer this question about your child.

Parents, how do your kids plan to get their 60 minutes of play in on Turkey Day?

  • Running in a fun run like a Turkey Trot
  • Playing football in the backyard
  • Participating in family parade around the neighborhood
  • Raking up leaves and playing in piles
  • All of the above

Children ages 10-18 are eligible to win the Thanksgiving, Detroit Lions prize package. The program runs through Nov. 9. To enter, parents can visit to submit their answers. Last year, Conner Smith, a 10-year-old from Commerce Township, was chosen from more than 1,300 entries to take part in the day’s festivities with his family.

The sweepstakes is more than just giving a child a terrific, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The program highlights the importance of children’s health and asks families to share how they get active for 60 minutes on Thanksgiving Day. The goal is to make sure their lifetime is as healthy as possible.

“We are excited to have children across the State of Michigan enter this sweepstakes for the Thanksgiving Game Day experience of a life time while showcasing their healthy habits,” says Bill Hawker, Detroit Lions vice president of corporate partnerships. “Our partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan leverages Play 60 as a platform to ensure Michigan children get necessary daily physical activity while incorporating nutritious eating habits.”

The winner of the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes will be randomly selected and announced on Monday, Nov. 14.

As part of their prize package, he or she will have the opportunity to enjoy:

  • A ride on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan float with two, accompanying adults in America’s Thanksgiving Parade Woodward Avenue
  • Special seating for eight along the parade route
  • A custom jersey or jacket
  • Delivering the commemorative game ball to Ford Field before the Lions take on the Minnesota Vikings
  • On-field participation in the national anthem and fan tunnel experience
  • A catered, Thanksgiving dinner for 10 while watching the game from club-level seats

“Blue Cross encourages families to recognize children who are committed to getting at least 60 minutes of active play in every day, and celebrates their efforts to practice healthy habits,” says Andrew Hetzel, vice president for corporate communications at Blue Cross.

The #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes supports Blue Cross’s ongoing commitment to children’s health through its #MIKidsCan campaign and partnership with the Detroit Lions’ Play 60 program – initiatives focused on encouraging kids to adopt healthy habits and get active for at least 60 minutes every day. Over the last 11 years, Blue Cross has given more than $6.5 million in support of kids’ health and wellness initiatives across the state, reaching nearly 200,000 children in nearly 400 schools.
