A good childhood should not be a rarity, so perhaps it is with a beautiful irony that a company that that specializes in rare items tries to make that true.

StockX, the “stock market of thing” in demand, will have an auction to benefit both National Foster Care Month in May and Grammy winner NE-YO’s The Compound Foundation called “Walk in Our Shoes.”

Started in Detroit, StockX has become a $1 billion business based on the resale of sneakers. Specifically, it got so big by focusing on selling limited edition sneakers anonymous, but with a stock market visibility.

This auction for charity will focus on shoes from NE-YO’s personal collection.

“StockX’s rapid growth is proving just how influential sneakers are in the world, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to harness that power to benefit such a great cause,” says StockX CEO Josh Luber. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with NE-YO for such a great campaign.”

The bidding for 20 pairs of NE-YO’s shoes is currently going on and will continue until 11:29 Friday, May, 20. The person with highest bid at the close end of the bid period will win that pair of sneakers. Each pair will come with a custom sneaker box and certificate of authenticity signed by NE-YO.

Compound Foundation’s Music Academy Boot Camp and annual Giving Tour will all gain support through the auctions.

The Music Academy Boot Camp allows kids to learn from people who actually work in the industry for a weekend and to learn about the many options the music field offers. At the end they compete for a $5,000 scholarship

The Giving Tour is an annual effort from the Boys and Girls Club of America to make sure 2,000 kids in foster care, ages 3-18, have happy holidays. The tour visits cities based on the size of the foster care population and comes to many of them.

Singer, songwriter, and actor NE-YO’s The Compound Foundation was set up in 20007 with business partner Reynell Hay to ensure and better the well-being of kids in foster care. The foundation wants to make certain kids in foster care grow up to have a normal life, thrive with healthy relationships, pursue education and training, learn entrepreneurship basics and realize their dreams

“Advocating for children, most of whom who have faced challenging circumstances, is my passion and mission for The Compound Foundation. I am proud to be a part of the ‘Walk In Our Shoes’ campaign that provides a fantastic opportunity to use my sneakers as a force for good,” says NE-YO.

Foster care is no child’s first choice for a life, and the more done to ease that world is admirable and inspirational … and if you can get a new pair of shoes owned by a Grammy winner, well that’s a cross to bear.
