Get a pizza during Buddy’s Pizza’s Slice of Life event April 4 and help feed the hungry

Get great pizza and help feed the hungry, where’s the down side? There isn’t one.

For the past 40 years Buddy’s Pizza has donated all proceeds from its Slice of Life event to benefit Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s programs. On April 4 they will do all that again and you can be part of it by going to one of 11 Buddy’s Pizza locations and getting an all-you-can-eat two-topping pizza and salad meal.

This year Buddy’s Pizza leadership and staff will take a hands-on approach and visit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen at 1264 Meldrum to serve Detroit-style square pizza to the less fortunate.

Servers include Robert Jacobs, owner and president, Wesley Pikula, vice president of operation, and Larry Simone, operations manager.

In the four decades of partnership Buddy’s has raised nearly $3 million for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and hopes to add another $100,000 this year.

Buddy’s also donates leftover Pizzas to the soup kitchen.

“We are pleased to partner with Buddy’s Pizza for our 40th annual Slice for Life fundraiser,” said Br. Jerry Smith, executive director of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. “Over all these years, tens of thousands of pizzas have been eaten and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Come and join us for the biggest, best celebration yet!”

To participate in the charitable feast, you have to buy a ticket. They are $15 for adults and $7 for children. Advance tickets can be purchased online at, or by calling 313-579-2100 ext. 153/170. Tickets will also be available at the door. All ticket holders can register to win one 8-square Buddy’s Pizza every month for one year.

You’re also encouraged to share your photos from the day on Facebook (, Twitter (@BuddysPizza) and Instagram (@BuddysPizzaDET). Join and follow the conversation by tagging and searching #Slice4Life.

You’ll be hard pressed to find someone from the area without fond memories of Buddy’s pizza. Combine that with the desire to help feed hungry and the $100,000 goal should be any easy target to achieve.
