New M Squared Techcast podcast covers Michigan’s emergence as technology hub

The M Squared Techcast debuts at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 14 on the Podcast Detroit internet radio network. It will be hosted by long-time Michigan tech journalists Mike Brennan and Matt Roush.

PD_mic_Retina_100x100The Techcast will cover Michigan’s ongoing transformation and emergence as a technology hub in a variety of fields, including software, advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, healthcare, and various branches of engineering. They also plan to cover Michigan’s vibrant startup business ecosystem.

Here’s what you’ll hear about on the first episode.

  • 3:00 to 3:15 – Matt and Mike talk about show, and discuss current headlines
  • 3:15 to 3:30 – Richard Stiennon (in studio) talks cybersecurity threats against business. Dan Lohrmann joins the segment over the phone.
  • 3:30 to 3:45 – Great Lakes Angeles Chairman David Weaver (in studio) talks about what angel investors are, and what they do.
  • 3:45 to 4 pm – Jason Vazzano, Vectorform, talks how film credits helped his video gaming company (in studio). Jenell Leonard, commissioner of the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office, joins the conversation over the phone.

Brennan has covered technology since the 1981, including serving as tech writer at the Detroit Free Press in the 1990s, before launching his own technology news website,, in 2000. He’s been providing weekly e-newsletters and ongoing online updates since.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the air again – I had a syndicated radio show a decade ago – and working with Matt to give better coverage to Michigan technology companies and entrepreneurs,” said Brennan, editor & publisher of M Squared Techcast .

Roush began covering technology in the mid-1990s at Crain’s Detroit Business. In 2001, he left Crain’s to launch the Great Lakes IT Report, a daily e-newsletter published by WWJ Newsradio 950 covering high tech from a Michigan perspective. Later, he contributed on-air tech coverage at WWJ. Since April 2014, he’s been director of communications and public relations for the Engineering Society of Detroit, a professional organization for engineers, scientists, and people in related technical fields.

“Mike and I have been friendly competitors since the tech bubble days, when he was with the Free Press and I was with Crain’s,” Roush said. “It’ll be a lot of fun to work with him on showcasing Michigan’s leadership in technology and engineering.”
