Dog lovers in and around Ferndale with a busy schedule are in luck for when they need daycare or boarding for their pooch.  A mere two years after it opened, Canine to Five will expand to a larger facility just down the road on May 18.

Canine to Five is a caregiver to dogs … from puppies to senior dogs. The move to 1221 East 9 Mile Rd. will triple its space and allow the team to meet the needs of each and every dog.

“We are so thrilled to be offering our customers in Ferndale and the surrounding areas a broader range of services. This move lets us offer our clients unique options to better care for dogs of every size and all ages,” says Liz Blondy, owner of Canine to Five in Ferndale and the founder of the original Midtown Detroit location.

Anyone who has cared for an older dog knows that it has unique responsibilities. That’s where the new Goldy Jones Memorial Seniors Lounge comes in. This new area will be dedicated to the custom treatment senior canids require.

“Providing a safe, happy space for all dogs is our primary goal. Older dogs need special attention, and now our handlers can go out of their way to give these dogs one-on-one care,” Blondy says.

CaninetoFiveFerndale1Older dogs are not the only ones taken into consideration. The young pups have their own special places. Four play rooms and an outdoor yard will provide a place for them to play and burn off the excess energy of youth.  They will also have the chance to swim and sunbathe when weather permits.

The extra space will not only expand the play area, but also will provide play equipment and pools for the young dogs.

“Providing a safe, happy space for all dogs is our primary goal. Older dogs need special attention, and now our handlers can go out of their way to give these dogs one-on-one care,” Blondy says.

CaninetoFiveFerndale3Highly trained handlers take care of these dogs 24/7 at this locally owned and operated dog daycare.  Whether boarding or daycare, the dog’s natural pack mentality is emphasized.

Of course, dogs, like people, are not one size fits all.  For those who do not thrive in a pack environment there are private play lodges.  These areas are open to those who either don’t fit pack requirements or are more attuned to one-on-one handling.

“It’s an alternative to standard dog kenneling that lets us better serve dogs with unique needs,” Blondy says.

There may be a little less guilt as dog owners head out to work each day or go on vacation and say goodbye to that furry face.
