The holiday season is quickly zeroing in on us, but all of the traditional ways to enjoy the season seem so … done. So what can you do if you don’t want to find yourself trapped in a stereotype … looking in the same old stores or online for gifts? Well, local favorite, The Detroit Artists Market, will bring you a less well-known tradition, its annual Art For The Holidays.
The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) has been a local institution for more than 80 years. This long-standing part of the city’s history is a great place to buy gifts for whatever holiday you celebrate. The work of more than 125 local artists provide side a large range of possible things to buy including paintings, jewelry, metal, photography, books cards, glass, ceramics, fibers and more.
Want to get an early jump on buying those gifts and finding that special something for that special someone? DAM has a special event planned called “First Grab Friday” on November 8 from 5 – 9 pm. However, while the overall Art For The Holidays is free, the special sneak peak is not. It will cost $20 to get in unless you are a member, in which case it will only cost $10. You can click here to get tickets.
Opening Day for Art For The Holidays is Saturday, November 9. The event runs through December 28. Any interested parties can stop in Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6pm. Once December rolls around, the DAM will add Sunday hours from noon to 5pm. Any member of the DAM will receive 10% off his or her purchases. If you are indecisive, lazy, or just want to spread the local flavor of the DAM, then gift certificates and gift memberships will also be available.
The Detroit Artists Market is located at 4719 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
Every purchase made at Art for the Holidays goes to aid and support local artists.
