Just in time for the new season of The Walking Dead and the 10th anniversary of the comic book that it’s based off of, is the sixth annual Detroit Zombie Walk Against Hunger.
While the conventional wisdom is decaying ghouls are preoccupied with brains and flesh those who show up will be raising money for Gleaners food bank.
For those who wish to participate can go to the Zombiewalkdetroit.com website to download a pledge form and then collect pledges from the usual suspects (friends, family, neighbors, etc.). and then show up looking like a walking corpse and shamble, limp, and decay to greater heights of charity. The person with the most donations even wins a huge prize package, teams have to share.
If you can’t suggest signatures you can still show up and aid the hungry by bringing at least five nonperishable food stuffs, or make a donation of any amount. However the donation must be at least $5.00 to receive a prize ticket. For those who can’t show, there is a special zombie support area of the Gleaners website so you can still lend a hand… even if it isn’t a decaying one.
The undead who participate are asked not to allow the dripping blood to dirty any passersby, property public or private. It’s the old leave no trace rule. Each corpse is responsible for his or her own actions. And just because a dog has been turned zombie doesn’t mean that they are not subject to the same leash and waste laws.
We know it will be a struggle to get those zombie bodies moving with all the dislocated shoulders, arms, legs and heads. You can lumber along by meeting at Hart Plaza. Gathering begins no sooner than 3:00 pm and the walk starts at 4:00 pm.
Zombie Walk Detroit is part of the World Zombie Walk Against Hunger.
Prizes are donated by Hollywood is Dead (Matt Busch), Noir Leather, Detroit Comics, Motor City Nightmares, Goth Cupcakes, Zombie Walk Detroit, and Adornment Deluxe.
After the walk you can join the rest of your zombie friends at The Grand Trunk Pub for the official World Zombie Day after party.
