New royal baby takes the cake … and ice cream, too

Are you a royal watcher? Do you want to celebrate the birth the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s (you know … Will and Kate) new baby boy?

We know the royal baby doesn’t have anything to do with Detroit, but we wanted to get in on the fun, too, so we thought we’d share this story from Detroit-area public relations agency, Hermanoff PR.

So hurry on over to your closest Dunkin’ Donuts or Baskin-Robbins store and check out Dunkin’ Donuts’ new Royal Munchkin® or its sister brand Baskin-Robbins’ Baby Shower Cake.

969549_10152050052178238_181308093_nThe Royal Munchkin is the newest addition to Dunkin’ Donuts’ Munchkin varieties. It’s an old-fashioned Munchkin donut hole dipped in pink, blue and white sprinkles representing traditional new baby colors. The Royal Munchkin is available in a variety of quantities, including 25-count or 50-count boxes, for a limited time this week at participating Dunkin™ Donuts restaurants nationwide.

Baskin-Robbins’ Baby Shower Cake is topped with baby booties and can be customized with a person’s favorite combination of 996548_10151753616257722_1261894169_nBaskin-Robbins ice cream and cake flavors. The 9-inch round cake is available year-round at participating Baskin-Robbins locations nationwide for a suggested retail price of $31.99.

Over in England it’s over the top, as you might guess. Participating Baskin-Robbins restaurants will offer a new Royal Baby signature ice cream cake, priced at the weight of the royal baby, £8.60. Available for a limited time, the Royal Baby Cake features Caramel Chocolate Crunch ice cream and chocolate cake, and is decorated with a chocolate frosting ribbon, a white chocolate bow, and gold chocolate candies.

This isn’t the first time Dunkin’ Brands have done something for the royals. It commemorated the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton with a Dunkin’ Donuts Royal Wedding Donut and Baskin-Robbins’ Royal Wedding Ice Cream Cake.

There’s a good reason. Dunkin’ Brands’ CEO and Chairman Nigel Travis is a dual U.S. and British citizen born and raised in Woodford, Essex.

“For decades, people have turned to Dunkin’ Donuts’ donuts and baked goods, and Baskin-Robbins’ cakes and ice cream, to make any moment a little sweeter. Our Royal Munchkin and Baby Shower Cake offer guests a fun and easy way to celebrate the joy and excitement of a new baby. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the newest addition to the Royal Family,” he said.

Here’s a little trivia. Dunkin’ Donuts has led the donut category for more than 60 years, selling approximately 2.4 billion donuts and Munchkins donut hole treats combined globally per year. More than 13 million ice cream cakes were sold at Baskin-Robbins shops worldwide in 2012.

One more thing … every Monday until August 26 you can get a large iced or hot coffee for 99 cents at participating Dunkin’ Donuts stores in Metro Detroit stores.
