As someone who’s new to the world of racing, I sure came in at an interesting time – the motorsports season is just gearing up and the excitement is building for the return of world-class auto racing to the Motor City!
As a public relations intern for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, I’m really excited to be part of this special event. There will be enough sights and sounds to keep everyone interested, with live entertainment, a family fun area, great food and a beautiful view of the Detroit River and skyline.
Did I forget to mention the racing? The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will have races with cars from the IZOD IndyCar Series, GRAND-AM Rolex Series, Pirelli World Challenge Series and the Firestone Indy Lights Series. It’s been interesting for me to learn the differences between these leagues – with the rivalries, the personalities and all the different racing strategies.
Having no bias for any of the leagues, it’s interesting to find out what fans think about the various series and drivers. Keeping up with our Grand Prix social media pages (www.facebook.com/detroitgp and www.twitter.com/detroitgp), one thing is clear – racing fans sure are loyal and passionate!
There’s only one team that I’m loyal to – Team Detroit. As a Wayne State University alum and someone who’s spent most of my life in Metro Detroit, I’m glad for every good thing that happens here. From festivals and concerts, to sports events and the auto show – if it’s good for Detroit, it’s got my vote.
The return of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix after four years symbolizes the comeback of the auto industry, and really, the whole city. An event like the Grand Prix brings positive national and international attention to a city that often gets the opposite. To me, it just makes sense – auto racing in the Motor City; the city famous for putting cars on the road.
