Just wanted to pass along some good stuff out of Inside Detroit, the amazing gang of folks who are giving the city a good name. They have a winning “I Hug Strangers in Detroit” pin design and they have a new weekly tour that cannot be beat.
First, the pin. You may recall that Inside Detroit wants to gather at least and hopefully more than 10,000 people during its attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Group Hug (which will take place Feb. 12 in Campus Martius Park during the city’s annual WinterBlast celebration). The group challenged the region to create a pin its participants could wear during the prep work, hug fest and afterward.
Well, the winner is…someone who works for Inside Detroit. (It’s not like there was any prize money, so don’t get your Web bloomers in a bunch.) But the pin is wicked cute and available at the Inside Detroit Welcome Center — which you should check out anyway because it’s fun, fresh and has lots of great gift items.
As for the new tours…you think you know everything about Detroit? Nope. You need to know more. And this is how to get the knowledge you deserve. Inside Detroit is holding four “Neighborhood Bus Tours” each month. Every week, there is a different place to discover: the Woodward Corridor, Southwest Detroit, Eastside and Greater Downtown.
“Every major city across the world offers regularly scheduled bus tours and people love them. Now people can enjoy the Motor City by bus too,” said Inside Detroit’s Jeanette Pierce. “Plus, we can cover much more ground than a walking or Segway tour so that means we can shed light on even more of our wonderful city.”
